Commemoration of the life of the bard Robert Burns, born on January 25, 1759.

A fine dinner at The Ladies' Recreation Club with the Selkirk Grace, piping of the haggis, address to The Haggis, The Immortal Memory, Toast to the Lassies, Reply on behalf of The Lassies and possibly some singing to round off the evening.

Your musician:

Fred Moyes was born in Perthshire and emigrated in 1969 to Canada where he worked as a university professor and singer of satirical songs.

He took up playing for Scottish Country Dancing in 1989 and has since performed in Canada, the US, Japan, Germany, England and Scotland. He has also featured regularly in the RSCDS Summer School at St Andrews.

And your caller:

Christine Basnett was born in Crosshouse, near Kilmarnock, and emigrated to Canada in 1982. She took up Scottish Country Dancing following a move to London, Ontario in 2000, and received the RSCDS Teaching Certificate in 2006.

As well as teaching regular classes she has given workshops and weekend courses in Canada and Japan.

This October we’re planning one of the regular and always-enjoyed events – a Pipes & Drams party. We’ll board an antique tram, and take a two hour ride to Causeway Bay, through Wan Chai, round Happy Valley and back,accompanied by some music and one or two pipers regaling those along the route. BYOB.

We’ll then go for dinner.

When - FRIDAY, 7 October 2016 starting at 7.00pm. The dinner will be booked for 9.15pm

Where - Whitty Street Terminus/ 1 Queen’s Road Central tram stop, outside HSBC (c.7.15pm)

Dinner: On a self pay/consumption basis – Highlanders go Dutch! (Nb. there’s a dress code)
