THE
The Reel Club has been in
existence for over fifty years, since 1947 in fact, although it only affiliated
with the Hong Kong Highlanders in 1997.
It was originally set up by the then minister of the Union Church with
the intention of providing British servicemen with wholesome entertainment and
keeping them away from less salubrious areas of
Fifty years later, it is still
providing people with wholesome entertainment and the chance to meet friends
and dance on a regular basis.
Individual members may come and go, but the regular Monday night
meetings keep right on going, though we're now in a new venue, the Hong Kong
Cricket Club.
The Reel Club is an affiliate member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, a globe-spanning organisation
with branches and affiliated groups in more countries than you can
imagine. You will never go on
holiday again without packing your dancing shoes.
WHAT THE REEL CLUB OFFERS
Regular Monday night meetings from
Regular classes for beginners. Classes are on Monday nights from
Occasional social dances, normally at the end of sessions.
The chance to take part in the many social events, including ceilidhs and dances, organised by
the Hong Kong Highlanders.
You don't have to become a member of the Highlanders to attend the Reel
Club, but members get reduced rates.
