SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCING EXPLAINED
Scottish Country Dancing is the
ballroom dancing of
It's fast and furious and great
fun!
It challenges the mind as well
as the body with occasionally catastrophic results.
Done well, it can be very
elegant.
The music's great!
Anyone can do it, at any age,
as long as you are able to move around the floor.
You can find a slightly more
detailed description by looking at What is Scottish Country Dancing Anyway? on
the Strathspey Server.
FEEBLE EXCUSES FOR NOT COMING ALONG
You've
never even heard of Scottish Country Dancing.
No
problem. We welcome folks with all
levels of expertise and here's a quick explanation.
You
haven't got a partner.
No problem. Many of our members leave their partners
at home. In Scottish Country
Dancing, it's customary to change partners for each dance and for women to
dance together if there aren't enough men.
You
haven't got the proper equipment.
No problem. Scottish dancing doesn't really require any
special equipment, though if you decide you like it you will probably want to
buy some proper dancing shoes. And
if you get really keen, you may even invest in a kilt.
You
don't know how to dance.
You'll never learn if you don't
give it a go.
You
don't want to come by yourself and none of your friends will come.
We're
a pretty friendly bunch - after you've been a few times you'll have a whole new
set of friends.
You
can't get away from work in time.
If you already know the basics,
why not come just for the later part of the programme. Or even better, use it as an excuse to
leave the office early. Have fun,
get exercise and prevent yourself from dropping dead from overwork too!
